Chile is the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2027. Under the motto "Astros de Tierra" ("Stars of the Earth"), the country presents itself as a land of observatories, from the astronomical knowledge of its indigenous peoples to the most advanced observatories in the world in the Atacama Desert. The motto views Chilean literature and culture as an expanded cosmos: writers, poets, thinkers and cultural figures become stars and constellations in a literary firmament that reflects the diversity of Chile's voices, languages, places and generations, from indigenous cosmologies and oral traditions to contemporary literature, visual arts and science. The "Frankfurt 2027" project is led by Chile's Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage (MINCAP) together with the Directorate for Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DIRAC), ProChile and Imagen de Chile. With the handover ceremony at the Frankfurt Book Fair on 11 October 2026, Chile's year as Guest of Honour officially begins, with the Leipzig Book Fair in March 2027 as its first stop.
